About Claudia and The Making of The Styling Hutch
Claudia Phillips had always known she wanted to be a beautician. Born and raised in Iowa, she got her start at an early age by helping dolls with bad haircuts, but quickly realized there was more out there for her. After graduating high school, Claudia quickly enrolled in beauty school, and never once looked back.

Although her first job, cutting hair in a small town beauty shop, was far from glamorous she worked there for a year until her family moved to the big city. She was then able to find a job in a mall salon, which helped her to further her experience in styling. She worked at this salon for several years, and then as an independent stylist for the next nine years.

After a move to Dallas and working in three independently owned salons, she took over as owner of the Styling Hutch, a salon with an antique flair that celebrated its seventh anniversary on October 19, 2006.

Three years ago, they received a packet in the mail which talked about new, specialized cutting and styling techniques for curly hair. Always wanting to learn something new, Claudia jumped at the opportunity to take on this new challenge. They trained through the nationally known Ouidad of New York, and now have clients from all over the U.S. because of this in depth training in curly hair cuts and natural curl treatments. It has been one of her greatest achievements as a salon owner and as a stylist.
